The Appeal of Old Timers - Club Night Highlights

Monday 27th May 2019

Report By Greg Stanfield

Our guest speaker, Kevin’s Fryer’s models were the focus and are exquisitely built, in part due to the CNC cut components supplied by his talented son who does all of the work on a computer which he operates from his wheel chair. Kevin has competed all over Australia with these models. He also explained the nature, history and appeal of old timers. They are essentially old fashioned free flight models converted to r/c and he explained how many are readily converted to electric. Thus, they provide leisurely, stress free flying. He also brought along an interesting display of old fashioned ignition motors. They were supplemented by Greg’s engines, some of which are relatively rare.

Santa Claus came early to John S who displayed 8 brand new engines he was recently given. All from the early 60’s , three were four strokes. Thanks John.  Mark B brought along a very nicely built Hearns Sportster and spoke about it, as well as donating copies of the plan for other club members to build. As well as being a real ‘Aussie’ design it is a good starting point for such modelling. Thanks Mark.
